Introduction
Bratislava is one of Central Europe's most underrated capitals, and the Sheraton Bratislava makes an excellent base for exploring it. Its biggest strength is location: the hotel sits right next to the modern Eurovea complex and is within easy walking distance of the Old Town, so you can leave the car (or the taxi app) behind and explore the city on foot.
Booking
I booked this four-night stay with Marriott Bonvoy points, combining points with my Free Night Award certificate. The total came to 99,000 points for the stay, a solid redemption for a well-located full-service hotel in a European capital.
Location

The location is great. A short walk takes you into the heart of Bratislava's Old Town, with its cobblestone streets, historic squares and a wide choice of local restaurants. Being able to stroll into town for dinner and walk back to the hotel afterwards was one of the highlights of this stay.
The hotel is also attached to Eurovea, a very modern shopping mall. This is incredibly convenient: on the lower level there's a grocery store for snacks, water and everyday essentials, and there's a lovely bakery with fresh pastries every morning.
A Points Pals Tip: The Morning Makovník
Skip the expensive hotel breakfast at least once and head down to the bakery in Eurovea. My go-to was the makovník, a traditional Slovak poppy seed roll, which I picked up every single morning of my stay. Fresh, not too sweet, and the perfect partner to a morning coffee.
Check-in and Service
A special shout-out goes to Alexandira at the front desk, who was extremely helpful throughout my stay. She went out of her way to suggest and arrange places to eat and things to see around the city, and her local recommendations made exploring Bratislava that much easier. It's this kind of personal service that turns a good stay into a memorable one.

Eating in the Old Town
One of the best parts of staying here is how easy it is to sample authentic Slovak cuisine. My favourite so far has to be Flagship, in the heart of Bratislava. Two dishes you absolutely must try:
Sviečková na smotane – tender beef sirloin in a rich, creamy vegetable sauce, served with bread dumplings. This is a must-have and my personal favourite.
Bryndzové halušky – Slovakia's national dish of small potato dumplings with soft sheep's cheese (bryndza), typically topped with crispy bacon. Hearty, comforting and uniquely Slovak.
Fitness Centre, Pool and Spa
The hotel has a fitness centre, a pool and a spa, each earning a 9 in my ratings. I didn't take photos of these areas during this stay, but you can see them in the Sheraton Bratislava's official photo gallery on Marriott's website.
Lounge (9/10)
The lounge is on the smaller side, but it was never crowded during my stay, so finding a comfortable seat was never an issue. It sits on a mezzanine overlooking the lobby atrium, with a mix of sofas, armchairs, small tables, a TV corner, a long communal table and a business desk with a computer.

The buffet area has a bean-to-cup coffee machine, a good selection of Ronnefeldt teas, fridges stocked with beer and soft drinks, fresh fruit and jars of nuts and snacks. The display case had croissant sandwiches, small desserts and a nice local touch: a selection of Slovak cheeses. Complimentary wine and beer are served from 6:00 to 10:00 PM, with warm hors d'oeuvres from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

My one wish: at dinner time there was no local food option. The Slovak cheese is a great start, but adding even one or two Slovak hot dishes to the evening spread would be a really nice touch and give guests a taste of the region without leaving the hotel. Because of this, the lounge falls just short of full marks.
Room
I was pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a Superior Room on the top floor, room 702, complete with a private balcony. The layout is generous: an entry hall with a coffee station, a separate bedroom, a bright living area, a sofa and TV corner, and even a dining table for four.

The bedroom is warm and comfortable, with a king bed, reading lights on both sides and a cosy armchair by the window.

The living area has floor-to-ceiling windows, warm hardwood floors and plenty of natural light, with a separate corner for the sofa and TV and a dining table that's great for spreading out.

For business travellers, the desk is a solid workspace with power outlets right at desk level. There's also a spacious walk-in closet with a luggage rack, iron and ironing board, and bathrobes.

The bathroom is spotless and modern, with dark stone floors, a walk-in rain shower, a double vessel-sink vanity with illuminated mirrors, and a magnifying mirror.

The highlight is the long balcony with a small seating area. From up here you can see across the city all the way to Bratislava Castle on the hill. It's a great spot to step outside and take in the view.

Conclusion
If you're visiting Bratislava, the Sheraton is a fantastic choice, especially for travellers who like to explore on foot. With the Old Town a short walk away, Eurovea's grocery store and bakery right downstairs, excellent front-desk service and some outstanding Slovak food nearby, it earns a Points Pals rating of 9.1. Just don't leave without trying the sviečková at Flagship, and grab a makovník for the road.
